An IoT LoRaWAN Network for Environmental Radiation Monitoring

A reliable and highly scalable Internet of Things (IoT) end-to-end data infrastructure has been developed for environmental radiation monitoring at the European Organization Nuclear Research (CERN) based on a low-power wide-area network (LPWAN). The proposed system, called Waste MONitoring (W-MON), consists an interconnected thousands sensitive ultralow-power gamma sensors acting as long range (LoRa) transceivers. aim system is to improve automatize radiological controls conventional waste containers. end devices measure levels in containers continuous basis send periodically LoRaWAN server. deployed outdoor environment covering hundreds hectares. set web-based user applications real-time monitoring, visualization, status control have designed open-source tools. pipeline allow easy integration into overall CERN Radiation Environment Monitoring Unified Supervision service (REMUS).
